Double European Champion signs for 2020

11/11/2019

26-year-old Maria Giulia Confalonieri from Seregno in Italy joins WNT-ROTOR Pro Cycling for next season. A rider who our sports director, Dirk Baldinger believes will add great strength to our 2020 squad.

Confalonieri a strong all-rounder and a rider who thrives on the track and the spring classics is looking to show herself throughout the year with one eye on the Olympic games in Tokyo.

The two-time European track points race champion, winning her most recent title just a few weeks ago in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, took a silver medal wearing the European jersey in the first track world cup of the season last week in Minsk, Belarus. Maria Giulia will look to help the team in the lead out for our sprinters as well as the classics. It will be a busy year ahead, when we spoke to Confalonieri, she was motivated about this new challenge;

“From the outside it looks like such a close group and a great team, I’ve noticed throughout this season how well the team works together in races, and I want to help to be a part of that next season and be a key part to the success, I’m very excited. I want to ride well especially in the classics, and I believe I can step up from where I am at this moment in my career, with a big goal looking towards the Olympics.”

With the Tokyo 2020 in her mind Confalonieri is looking for a focused year on the track and road. We are excited for 2020 and hope Confalonieri can be an integral part of the team alongside her Olympic ambitions.

Maria Giulia is the second double European champion to join the team after the earlier announcement of Danish rider, Julie Leth.
